Communities of practice (CoP) have demonstrated value as a way for group members to elevate their subject knowledge, solve problems by working together, and also to create new knowledge. The Community of Practice concept has been used in LOUIS in communities, such as the System Administrator community, and academic libraries have benefited from utilizing CoP in both library services and professional education to increase the value of services academic libraries provide.
